Storytime Share – Math: Geometry and Spatial Sense 1

Standard: Math: Geometry and Spatial Sense

Specific skill focused on: Shapes

Song: “Shake My Sillies Out” (Raffi, Singable Songs for the Very Young)

Book: The Wing on a Flea: A Book About Shapes by Ed Emberley

Song: “Many Shapes” (Anna Banana Band, Anna Banana Band!)

Book: Pick a Circle, Gather Squares: A Fall Harvest of Shapes by Felicia Sanzari Chernesky

Song: “Shapes” (Greg & Steve, We All Live Together, Volume 3)

Book: Mouse Shapes by Ellen Stoll Walsh

Song: “Gotcha” (Imagination Movers, For Those About to Hop)

Book: Shape by Shape by Suse MacDonald

Activity: Shape Collage (We glued shapes of various colors and sizes to a piece of paper)

Thoughts:  The kids really liked finding the shapes in the Pick a Circle, Gather Squares book, and Mouse Shapes was a favorite, too.  Having an open-ended craft like the one we had today worked well.  Some kids enjoyed making specific things like houses and animals by putting their shapes together while others just had fun gluing the shapes on in random designs.
