Storytime Share – Early Literacy: Phonological Awareness 1

Standard: Early Literacy: Phonological Awareness

Specific skill focused on: Rhyming-Ninjas

Song: “Shake My Sillies Out” (Raffi, Singable Songs for the Very Young)

Book: Dojo Daycare by Chris Tougas

Song: “Dance Along Gong Song” (Jim Gill, Jim Gill’s Irrational Anthem)

Book: Ninja Red Riding Hood by Corey Rosen Schwartz

Song: “The Ninjas” (Barenaked Ladies, Snacktime!)

Song: “If You’re a Ninja and You Know It” from Falling Flannelboards blog

Book: Ninja, Ninja, Never Stop! by Todd Tuell

Song: “Dance Kung Fu” (Imagination Movers, Rock-o-Matic)

Activity: Paper Ninjas from Mimi’s Craft Shack blog

The template on the blog is actually for a no-sew tooth fairy pouch, but I blew it up and used it for a paper craft.

Thoughts: This storytime was really fun, and I think the kids enjoyed it, too. I knew that I was going to focus on rhyming  and do stories written in rhyme today. There have been so many ninja picture books that have been published in the last few years, and when I saw that several of them were rhyming books, it just all kind of fell into place.
