Standard: Early Literacy: Listening and Understanding

Specific skill focused on: Sequential Order

Song: “Shake My Sillies Out” (Raffi, Singable Songs for the Very Young)

Book: It’s a Tiger! by David LaRochelle

Song: “Tiger through the Trees” (Caspar Babypants, This Is Fun!)

Book: If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Numeroff

Activity: Retell If You Give a Mouse a Cookie using picture cards on flannel board

Rhyme: “Hickory Dickory Dock”

Book: The Napping House by Audrey Wood

Song: “Take a Little Nap” (Ralph’s World, Ralph’s World)

Book: Go Away, Big Green Monster! by Ed Emberley

Activity: Retell Go Away, Big Green Monster! using hand puppet

Activity: Monster Mask Collage

Make mask face out of paper plate then let kids decorate how they want using craft supply scraps

Notes: In order to work on the kids’ sequencing skills I let them guide me as much as possible when retelling the stories. I prompted them when necessary but tried to give them enough space to remember the details on their own.
