Specific skill focused on: Gravity
Song: “Shake My Sillies Out” (Raffi, Singable Songs for the Very Young)
Book: I Fall Down by Vicki Cobb
Song: “Down Down Baby” (Laurie Berkner, Whaddaya Think of That?)
Book: Chicken Little by Rebecca Emberley and Ed Emberley
Song: “Mack Chicken Dance” (Greg & Steve, Big Fun)
Book: Oh, No! by Candace Fleming & Eric Rohmann
Rhyme: “Humpty Dumpty”
Song: “Hump Dee” (Various Artists, The Hip-Hop Nursery Rhymes Collection)
Book: Gravity by Jason Chin
Activity: Water Drop Art
I gave each child a small piece of paper and washable markers. After they colored the piece of paper (I encouraged them to cover as much of the paper as possible), I gave them paintbrushes and water so they could drip water onto the paper to see gravity in action.
Thoughts: I Fall Down (like other books in Vicki Cobb’s Science Play series) is great for a STEM-based storytime like this one. The book explains the science concept in a way the children can understand with mini-experiments incorporated into the book. Highly recommended!
